RULES AND REGULATIONS - WALK CYCLE RUN RELAY 2018

TEAM CATEGORIES

The race categories for the CESA Relay are as follows:

A) COMPETITIVE TEAMS:

A1) RUNNING TEAMS (COMPETITIVE)
All competitive running teams (excluding University Challenge teams below), will compete for the 1st, 2nd and third fastest team, irrespective of the size of the firm. This will also include sponsor and invitation client teams.
Every team must comprise 8 runners who will each complete an approximate 5km lap of the course, a total distance of 40 km for the race.

To be eligible for prizes each team MUST include:

COMPETITIVE RUNNING TEAMS, at least six team members must be full time employees. The other two members of the team may consist of consultants to a firm (as listed on the firm’s letterhead) or family members (spouse, child, brother or sister) of employees. Children under the age of 12 who are included in the team MUST be accompanied by an adult. If necessary, a maximum of two runners in each team may run two legs each.
All competitive teams must complete all fields on the entry form in order to be eligible for the team prizes.Anyteamnot complying with the above rules will not be eligible for the competitive category prizes.
A2) WALKING TEAMS (COMPETITIVE)
All competitive walking teams will participate in one category.
Every walking team must comprise five walkers who will each complete an approximate 5km lap of the course; a total distance of 25 km. Competitors may compete in any order. Teams may consist only of men, women or mixed teams.

NOTA BENA:

COMPETITIVE WALKING TEAMS, at least 4 team members must be full time employees. A3) CYCLING TEAMS (COMPETITIVE)
All competitive cycling teams will participate in one category (excluding University challenge teamsbelow).
Every cycling team must comprise five cyclists. Each competitor will complete an approximate 10 km mountain bike course; a total of approximately 50 km. Competitors may compete in any order. Teams may consist only of men, women or mixed teams.

SPECIAL NOTE: Helmets are compulsory.“No helmet, No ride”.

B) RECREATIONAL TEAMS:

B1) RUNNING TEAMS (RECREATIONAL)
Every team must comprise eight runners who will each complete an approximate 5km lap of the course, a total distance of 40 km for the race. At least 4 team members must be full time employees. The other 4 members of the team may consist of consultants to a firm (as listed on the firm’s letterhead) or family members (spouse, child, brother or sister) of employees. Children under the age of 12 who are included in the team MUST be accompanied by an adult. If necessary, a maximum of two walkers in each team may run two legs each.

B2) WALKING TEAMS (RECREATIONAL)

Every team must comprise five walkers who will each complete an approximate 5km lap of the course, a total distance of 25 km. At least 2 team members must be full time employees.The other 3 members of the team may consist of consultants to a firm (as listed on the firm’s letterhead) or family members (spouse, child, brother or sister) of employees. Children under the age of 12 who are included in the team MUST be accompanied by an adult. If necessary, a maximum of two walkers in each team may walk two legs each.

B3) CYCLING TEAMS (RECREATIONAL)

Every team must comprise five cyclists. Each competitor will complete an approximate 10 km mountain bike course, a total of approximately 50 km. At least 2 team members must be full time employees. The other 3 members of the team may consist of consultants to a firm (as listed on the firm’s letterhead) or family members (spouse, child, brother or sister) of employees. C) UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE

This year we are continuing with the new category to encourage participation of University Students. These teams shall compose of current full time University students from the Built Environment Professions.
All team members are to be from the same university and from the professional discipline (i.e. Engineers, Architects, and Quantity Surveyors etc).

C1) UNIVERSITY RUNNING CHALLENGE

These teams shall consist of 8 runners, all full time students from the same University and study discipline. A minimum of one female member to be included in each team.

C2) WALKING TEAMS (COMPETITIVE)

Every walking team must comprise five walkers, all full time students from the same University and study discipline, who will each complete an approximate 5km lap of the course; a total distance of 25 km. Competitors may compete in any order. Each team must include at least one female.

C3) UNIVERSITY CYCLE CHALLENGE

These teams shall consist of 5 riders of which at least one should be a female. All riders are to be from the same University and study discipline.
SPECIAL NOTE: Helmets are compulsory.“No helmet, No ride”.
NOTA BENA:
The University challenge teams shall compete against the other university teams and shall not be eligible for any category or other prizes.
All University Challenge teams must complete all fields on the entry form in order to be eligible for theteamand University Challenge prizes. Any team not complying with the above rules will not be eligibleforthe University Challenge prizes.

D) TUG OF WAR

The TUG of WAR competition will take place throughout the relay event with the final taking place before the end of the day’s formal proceedings prior to the prize giving. We are inviting firms to register for this event and have some fun. Entries are restricted to 16 teams due to venue limitations. Only one team per firm can be entered and this will be addressed on a first come first served basis. Each team will consist of 8 members, of which 4 are to be men, 4 to be women (children between the ages of 10 and 15 are welcome but not compulsory). The competition will be determined by a single round between two teams (3 ends), where the team that wins the best of three will progress to the next round. The winner of the final will receive a floating trophy. The actual rules, training and judging of the event will be provided by the “Tug of War Society”.

E) VOLLEYBALL

The VOLLEYBALL competition will take place throughout the relay event with the final taking place before the end of the day’s formal proceedings prior to the prize giving. We are inviting firms to register for this event and have some fun. Entries are currently restricted to 16 teams due to venue limitations. Only one team per firm can be entered and this will be addressed on a first come first served basis. Each team will consist of 6 members, of which 3 are to be men, 3 to be women (children between the ages of 10 and 15 are welcome but not compulsory).There must be a minimum of 2 (two) women on court at any given time.
The competition will be determined by each team taking part in a knockout process. The winning team of each game will proceed to the next round until two teams are left and those two teams will contest the final.
The winner of the final will receive a floating trophy.The actual rules, training and judging of the event will be provided by the “South Africa Volleyball Association”.

GENERAL INDEMNITY

Indemnity applicable to all participants of any of the events above.
The participant acknowledges that the activity in which he/she participates by its very nature carries inherent risks which could cause him/her to sustain bodily injury and/or suffer damages, and waives any claim so arising against the organizers or its members or employees.
The participant makes use of the event facilities at entirely his/her own risk and agrees that the organisers will not be held liable and/or responsible for any loss, injury, damages, death, and/or compensation of whatsoever nature and howsoever arising as a result thereof, irrespective of whether negligence or gross negligence exists on the part of the organisers or any member or employee, and the participant does hereby waive any claim it may have against the organiser as a result thereof.
The Participant hereby warrants that he/she is medically fit so as to participate in activities of this nature, it not being the responsibility of the Organiser to have the Participant undergoes any medical examination, the onus being on the Participant to do so. The Organiser shall not be obliged to call upon the Participant to provide a medical certificate.The Organiser, its members or employees, shall not be liable for any claim or injury or loss or damages arising from or in connection with the agreement.
Persons accepting this indemnity as the parent and/or guardian of a minor hereby agree to such minor being bound by the aforegoing waiver and indemnity.
