General Conditions of Contract (GCC 2015)

Overview

The GCC drafting committee launched its third edition of the GCC contract in 2015. The new edition of the contract will be familiar to that of 2010, but includes some interesting innovations and improvements, including: 

  • The contract is suitable for use in disciplines other than civil engineering.
  • It is suitable for building works, civil engineering works and electrical and mechanical works or a combination of these.
  • GCC 2015 recognizes that multidisciplinary projects are often best served by a versatile multi-disciplinary contract.
  • The contract is suitable for employer designed and contractor designed works, and has received the CIDB's approval and meets its best practice requirements.

Why Should an Individual Attend?

The features of the GCC 2015 contains improvements from the GCC of 2010 contract, namely:

  • New definitions and changes to wording for legal correctness and clarity.
  • Engineer” is now the “Employer’s Agent”.
  • Construction Manager” now replaces the “Contractor’s Site Agent”.
  • Contractor can now suspend the Works.
  • Contractor’s time risk allowances to be shown on programme.
  • Improved fair allocation of risk.
  • New Variable Performance Guarantee.

Outcomes

On completion of this course, you will be able to:
  • Gain an understanding of the different contracts forming part of the GCC family of contracts, which contract to select and the main differences between them
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the parties as well as those of the Engineer/Employer’s Representative
  • Learn how to apply the procedures (e.g., in connection with the notification of claims) contained in the contract correctly
  • Identify events that entitle the parties to institute claims against each other

  • Module 7 Clause 8: Risks and Related Matters; Clause 9: Termination; Clause 10: Claims and Disputes Part 1 of 2
  • Module 8 Clause 10: Claims and Disputes Part 2 of 2; Completion of Questionnaires
