Welcome<\/strong><\/p>\n

The CESA Business of Consulting Engineering Management Development Programme (BCE MDP) was launched in 2012, following a two-year development period which involved considerable research and input from a broad range of industry role-players.<\/p>\n

The aim of the programme is to equip engineers and other built environment professionals in the consulting engineering industry with non-technical skills that are not typically included in tertiary engineering education. These modules include:<\/p>\n

  • Consulting Engineering Environment<\/li>\n
  • Project Delivery<\/li>\n
  • Legal and Contratual Law<\/li>\n
  • Business and Project Finance<\/li>\n
  • Interpersonal Skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The overall objective of the BCE MDP is to:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Enable professionals to gain a clear understanding of the consulting engineering industry, its workplace, role players, stakeholders, and daily practices, with strong emphasis on project delivery, thereby strengthening their contribution to company sustainability<\/span>.<\/li>\n
    • Provide engineers with broad knowledge across all aspects of the consulting engineering environment, equipping them to perform with a high level of professionalism<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Objectives of <\/strong>the Modules within the BCE MDP:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

      The broad objectives of the BCE MDP programme are to equip the student with:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • Consulting Engineering Environment:<\/span><\/b> A sound understanding of the consulting engineering industry and the business environment in which consulting engineering firms operate<\/span>.<\/li>\n
      • Project Delivery:<\/span><\/b> A solid grounding in all aspects of the project delivery life cycle and process, with emphasis on the role played by the consulting engineer, his duties, and responsibilities<\/span>.<\/li>\n
      • Legal & Contract Law:<\/span><\/b> An introduction to the principles of law and the legal system, legal structures of businesses and the principles of a contract and construction contracts<\/span>.<\/li>\n
      • Business & Project Finance:<\/span><\/b> An introduction to finance, including basic accounting practices and the accounting process, project costing and invoicing, company accounts, budgeting, planning, and financial analysis.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Interpersonal Skills:<\/b> It develops the core abilities needed to work effectively with others. It strengthens leadership and people management, enhances problem\u2011solving and negotiation, and equips participants to manage conflict, stress, and time more effectively.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Objectives of this Student Guide are:<\/strong><\/p>\n

        • To provide the student with an overview of the programme and how it is structured.<\/li>\n
        • To establish a set of ground rules to be adhered to over the duration of the programme.<\/li>\n
        • To give overall objectives of each module in the programme.<\/li>\n
