The glossary below is a list of terms and their definitions used within the programme and unless the context dictates otherwise, the words and expression set forth below shall bear the following meanings or indicate the specified roles, and cognate expressions shall bear corresponding meanings:<\/p>\n

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Activities <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nActivities are undertaken during the online classes, using virtual breakaway rooms, where the students will work in groups and must complete given tasks during a given time. At the end of each activity group session, a designated Student will represent their group and present their group\u2019s report on the task\u2019s outcome. (Refer to Appendix 5)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Assignments<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nAssignments are given to the Students, in accordance with the programme\u2019s exit outcomes and needs to meet specific criteria (refer Appendix 5).
The Assignments are to be completed by the Students in their own time, except for gaining information from their company for the relevant assignment. There is a specific timeframe for each assignment which needs to be submitted via the CESAnet.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

BCE MDP<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nBusiness of Consulting Engineering Management Development Programme.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
BCE Mentor<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nStudents requiring additional support during the program can be allocated a BCE MDP Mentor from the pool of Convenors and Facilitators, whose role is to provide additional support to the Student (as required)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
CESA <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nConsulting Engineers South Africa.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
CESA NPC<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nConsulting Engineers South Africa Non-Profit Company (Refer to Appendix 4).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
CESA Education and Training Committee<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nOversees the monitoring of the quality of training offered by the School of Consulting Engineering (SCE).<\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
CESAnet<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nStudents, Convenors, and Facilitators\u2019 Intranet portal, where all parties will be able to access training materials, assignments, activities, reference and resource documents (Electronic Library). <\/span>The Students will be able to upload their assignments, obtain assignment results, correspond with their BCE Mentor, Facilitators, Module Convenors, and other class Students.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Development Programme<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nBusiness of Consulting Engineering Management Development Programme (BCE-MDP).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Employer<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nThe company which has enrolled the Student onto the development programme (refer to Appendix 2).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Facilitator<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nA Facilitator is a Subject Matter Expert who imparts their knowledge and experiences during the contact sessions, by means of presentations or activities.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Fee<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nThe price paid to CESA NPC for a single Student to attend the Programme. The fee includes attendance at the online sessions, access to the electronic library, assessment and moderation of assignments and exams, ECSA CPD points, CPD certificate and the use of the CESAnet. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Excluded: The Employer or Student must provide their own computer equipment and any other personal expenses, such as a steady internet connection and sufficient data for the duration of the online class and for research purposes. (A minimum of 4mbps Wi-Fi internet connection).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Module Convenor<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nModule Convenor is responsible for setting the aims and learning outcomes of the module and, alongside other subject matter experts who facilitate on the module, for ensuring that the delivery and assessment of the module, including resource considerations, setting, and marking of assignments and summative assessments (exams), facilitates the achievement of the stated learning outcomes and the quality of the assessment process for the module.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Online sessions<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nApproximately thirty-five weekly afternoon online sessions which typically take place every Tuesday from 12:45 to 17:30, with occasional longer sessions until 18:30.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Parties<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nThe authorised signatories to this Agreement.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Portfolio of Evidence<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nThe student’s Portfolio of Evidence is a compilation of the successfully completed assignments, activities, and exams which are uploaded by the student onto the CESAnet. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Programme Convenors<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nProgramme Convenors are appointed by CESA NPC, and work in conjunction with CESA\u2019s Education and Training Committee in assuring the quality of the programme\u2019s content. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Convenors are responsible for marking and assessing assignments and exams and for the general roll-out of the programme, in conjunction with CESA\u2019s Education and Training Manager. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Resubmission <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nWhen a Student does not achieve the required assignment exit outcomes, they will be required to resubmit the assignment (refer to Appendix 5).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
SCE<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nCESA\u2019s School of Consulting Engineering.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Student<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nThe individual who has enrolled in the BCE MDP. (refer to Appendix 1).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Workplace Mentor<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/td>\nA Workplace Mentor is an employee from within the company or an appointed external mentor, preferably in management, who has undertaken to support, encourage and assist the student in obtaining work experience and any information required to complete assignments.
