the 2030 target, the capital requirement stands
at around R28-trillion. So, we shall indeed
require assistance beyond the BRICS countries.
CESA already has a global reach through its
membership of the Federation of International
Consulting Engineers body called FIDIC and the
Group of African Member Associations called
GAMA. Through these organisations and our
own established Built Environment Professionals
Export Council (BEPEC) inter-trade of consulting
engineering services shall be promoted across the
world ensuring a win-win situation is achieved in
the Consulting Engineering industry.
It is of fundamental importance that although
Consulting Engineering is being practiced as a
business, it is indeed a national skills imperative
that must be supported and nurtured by the National
Government. A nation without the harnessing of
the engineering skills cannot dare dream of being
counted amongst the world’s competitive nations. I
shall make it my duty to advocate to the three tiers
of South African Government (National, Provincial
and Local) to understand this fundamental role they
must play relative to the Consulting Engineering
Service.
Everything shall start and end with the dynamic
team that I am leading at the Directorate level of
CESA. The Board and its Sub-Committees shall
have to support me in my quest to deliver my vision.
The non-profit status or character of this unique
and dynamic organisation that derives its financial
resources through membership fees, the School
of Consulting Engineering and sponsorships shall
not be used to constrain the unleashing of the
potential of our workers. I shall ensure that we build
reserves and pay competitive wages that remain
at the least to the median quartile of the market
benchmark. Performance management shall form
the fundamental, uncompromised principle and
culture of the Directorate of CESA. We shall give
more to our members than what we take from them
in membership fees.
