Rise to the top of your profession courtesy of the BCE Development Programme

The Business of Consulting Engineering (BCE) Development Programme intake for 2022 is in full swing. Prospective students are finalizing their registration for the programme that has been developed by the industry, for the industry. Whether young professionals are looking to progress to a more senior level or grow their own business, the BCE Development Programme will give them the practical skills, applied theory and confidence to boost their consulting engineering career.

Michelle Lawrence from AECOM SA (Pty) Ltd - ‘I enjoyed learning things from a broader perspective than just engineering design. It was good to get a holistic view of consulting engineering including all the steps in project delivery, finance, law and all the other modules from subject matter experts.”

Applications are currently open for the 2022 BCE programme which starts in March and finishes in November and is 100% online. If they register online before the 15th of December, applicants will receive an early bird discount.

Over 50 subjects are covered in the programme, with modules focussing on Project Delivery, Consulting Engineering Environment, Business and Project Finance, Legal and Contractual Law, as well as other inter-personal development subjects.

Brenda Lacey-Smith, Manager: Education and Training at CESA states, “This programme will enable students to learn from the best, courtesy of our 15 subject matter experts, who are highly experienced, local industry practitioners”.

Companies should enrol their top performing young engineers for the BCE programme for the following reasons:

  • With the current economic climate, employers are hiring less, therefore it’s important to develop and upskill the young engineers they already have, in order to achieve the most from them.
  • It yields a pool of dynamic young professionals, who can legitimately be fast tracked up the organisation’s ladder, meeting several elements necessary for economic development and transformation.
  • It develops skill sets that allow young graduates to take on a greater variety of work.
  • It increases job satisfaction and self-confidence amongst young professionals.

It increases employee motivation and efficiencies in employee performance, resulting in company performance and thereby financial gain.

  • The programme enhances the company’s image, due to the quality of work that the young professional produces, after attending the BCE.
  • The programme is claimable on the company’s SETA WSP/ATR submission and Construction Charter B-BBEE Scorecard
