FIDIC Africa 2021 Infrastructure Conference goes virtual this May 2021

The annual FIDIC Africa Infrastructure Conference, aimed at shaping the consulting engineering industry and contributing towards infrastructure development in Africa, will take place virtually over two days on the 18-19 May 2021.

This year’s conference is themed: “The Role of the consulting engineer in a changing world – the African perspective. Are African consulting engineers ready to change Africa into the global infrastructure powerhouse of the future?”

Kabelo Motswagole, President of FIDIC Africa, explains that the conference is an exciting platform to unpack important issues impacting the consulting engineering fraternity. Further, it presents an opportunity for networking and capacity building for all consulting engineers across Africa.

There will be a range of topics to discuss and engage in. This includes ethical dilemmas in project implementation; challenges and disruptions in the engineering consultant experience; project procurement and delivery; the agenda for infrastructure and social development; and the role of the consulting engineer.

Motswagole is excited that the conference can proceed online given that last year’s event was cancelled. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t host the conference in 2020, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in different countries imposing a lockdown a month before we were scheduled to host it in April 2020. With the move to virtual platforms, we are excited that we are able to successfully host this year’s conference online.”

He adds that FIDIC is excited to host all 18 members of the group. This includes Angola (AAPC); Botswana (ACEB); Egypt (ESCONE); Ghana (GAC); Kenya (ACEK); Malawi (ACEM; Mali (OICM); Morocco (FMCI); Mozambique (EMC); Namibia (ACEN); Nigeria (ACEN); South Africa (CESA); Sudan (SEACA); Tanzania (ACET); Tunisia (ANBEIC); Uganda (UACE); Zambia (ACEZ); and Zimbabwe (ZACE).

There will be a range of insightful speakers from different organisations, including the private sector, the public sectors and member associations – details of which will be announced in due course.
