Role and Importance of a FIDIC Certified Contract Manager
A FIDIC Certified Contract Manager is an experienced professional responsible for overseeing contracts based on the FIDIC suite of documents throughout a project’s lifecycle. Their primary duties include ensuring all parties—such as contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and clients—adhere to their contractual obligations, thereby facilitating effective project management and delivery. These managers are also skilled in handling modifications to project scopes and resolving disputes that may arise during the project’s execution.
Obtaining the FCCM certification not only validates an individual’s expertise in contract management but also contributes to upholding industry standards. Certified professionals are recognized for their commitment to excellence, which can enhance their career prospects and open new professional opportunities.

The FIDIC Certified Contract Manager
The FIDIC Certified Contract Manager (FCCM) program is an internationally recognized certification designed for senior-level professionals involved in managing contracts throughout a project’s lifecycle. This certification validates expertise in applying and overseeing the provisions of key FIDIC publications, including:
- FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Construction – Red Book (1999 and 2017 editions)
- FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Plant & Design-Build – Yellow Book (1999 and 2017 editions)
- FIDIC Conditions of Contract for EPC Turnkey Projects – Silver Book (1999 and 2017 editions)
- FIDIC Golden Principles (2019)
In addition to these core documents, certified professionals are expected to have a foundational understanding of other FIDIC Body of Knowledge (FBOK) materials, notably the FIDIC Procurement Procedures Guide (1st edition, 2011). Achieving FCCM status signifies a comprehensive grasp of FIDIC contract mechanisms and the adept management of projects utilizing these contracts.
Certification Validity and Maintenance
The FCCM certification is valid for three years from the date of issuance. To maintain certification, holders must adhere to an annual monitoring procedure, ensuring continuous professional development and compliance with FIDIC standards. Failure to meet these requirements may result in suspension or withdrawal of the certification before its expiration. Annual renewal fees are CHF 250, payable at the end of the first and second years. In the third year, a recertification fee of CHF 1,000 is required to extend the certification’s validity.
