Overview

This two-day course covers the General Conditions of Contract for Construction Works 3rd Edition 2015, popularly known as the “GCC 2015”.

Since the publication of its first predecessor in 1958, the GCC 2015 has been setting the highest standards for South African construction contracts. Its superb coverage of contractual affairs addresses the many complicated aspects of contracting. The balancing of risks between an Employer and a Contractor is its strongest feature alongside its prescripts for the resolution of disputes.

The GCC 2015 is suitable for projects where a registered professional from the built environment fulfils an authoritative role in the construction process. Such a person is usually an ECSA-registered Professional Engineer, or a registered Architect, Quantity Surveyor or another registered professional fulfilling the role of an Employer’s Agent in a professional capacity.

The GCC 2015 covers the best practices of modern-day international standard forms of construction contract for projects designed by an Employer or a consulting engineer. The GCC 2015 is suitable for use as a fixed-price or re-measurement contract and can be used as a fixed-price contract.

The course covers the fundamental theory of contracts and is supplemented by court judgements where disputes went to court.
