As part of our Practice Notes webinar series, we hosted a technical presentation by Mahendren Manicum, Managing Director of Naidu Consulting, entitled: “Sustainability: Engineering a Greener Future and Navigating Decarbonisation Strategies in Road Infrastructure.” 

The webinar provided valuable insights into the sustainability challenges and opportunities facing the road infrastructure sector, with a particular focus on climate change legislation, regulatory compliance requirements, and the mitigation and adaptation strategies required to support the transition to a lower-carbon future. 

Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in the civil engineering industry, Mahendren shared his expertise in pavement engineering and sustainable infrastructure practices, highlighting practical approaches to integrating sustainability principles into infrastructure planning, design and delivery. As a Fellow of both the South African Institution of Civil Engineering  and the Society for Asphalt Technology, he provided attendees with valuable perspectives on the evolving role of engineers in advancing environmentally responsible infrastructure solutions.
