In November last year South Africans heard that the country will be faced with rolling black-outs after a 40-metre high coal silo collapsed at Eskom’s Majuba power station in Mpumalanga. 

Three months prior, a building under renovation in an area southeast of Johannesburg collapsed, killing eight people and earlier in the year the roof of the half-built Tongaat Shopping Mall north of Durban collapsed, killing at least one person and trapping 50 under rubble.
