Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) has noted with concern the serious allegations against engineer Neil Macleod as reported in the Sunday Tribune of 11 November 2012.
A large number of our member firms have worked with Macleod as Head of Water and Waste of Ethekwini for a few decades.
CESA has adopted a strict Business Integrity Management System (BIMS) and all its members are obliged to comply with this system as a condition of membership. In fact, for 2011 we have adopted the theme: ‘CESA Engineers, Unquestionably Ethical’.
The CESA BIMS is part of our code of conduct and we do take disciplinary action against any member defaulting on our code of conduct. We are pleased to report that in all our dealings with Ethekwini Water and Waste, we have never had to deal with a business integrity issue involving our members and Macleod or his department.
He stands out as a senior and well respected engineer, with an impeccable record with issues of transparency and business integrity. Until and unless it is proved otherwise, CESA stands behind him as a true visionary and an ardent supporter of our Code of Conduct and as a true professional registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa, which in itself strictly regulates the behaviour of professional engineers.
