CESA Practice Notes Series - Providing Industry Insights

The CESA Practice Notes have been compiled by experienced consulting engineering practitioners with the purpose of explaining the concept of Sustainable Development and the role of the Consulting Engineer in finding a balance between economic, social and environmental demands of a project. This is helpful to assist members in managing enterprise risk as well as guiding good business practice. These webinars are held throughout each year. 

CESA Practise Notes – 23 August 2022  

The 8Th webinar in the CESA Practise Notes Series was held on 23 August 2022 and it was an insightful event consisting of great topics delivered by knowledgeable and experienced speakers. Wally Mayne, CESA Manager: Contractual Affairs was the Moderator for the webinar. The first speaker was Dave Clarke, former Chairperson of the CESA Eastern Cape Branch discussing the Client-Consulting Engineer relationship. Following Dave was Wayne Hunt, member of the CESA Quality, Risk and Sustainability Management Committee who shared insight on the topic ‘Conflict of Interest & Payment Certificates’. Lastly, Francis Gibbons, Chairperson of the CESA Practice Notes Sub-Committee discussed the ‘Assessment of Risk in Penalty Clauses in Consultancy Agreement’ before the question-and-answer session.  

CESA Practise Notes Series – 7 October 2022 

The 9th webinar in the CESA Practice Notes Series focussing on the Liability issues in Consulting Engineering was held on 7 October. It was a very informative event with great engagement between speakers and attendees via the online platform. Welcoming guests and introducing speakers was Wally Mayne, CESA Manager: Contractual Affairs. The first speaker was Francis Gibbons presenting a topic titled: ‘Consulting Engineer’s Responsibilities, Duties and Obligations, and Liability.’ Discussing Limitations of Liability – CESA standard form of agreement was Sam Varela, Senior Legal Risk Advisor from Aon. The final speaker of the day was CESA past president and member of the CESA supply chain management committee, Craig Clarke who presented the topic ‘Unlimited Liability required by a client.’
