CESA joins in on Mandela Day activities
We were delighted to join hands with stakeholders to celebrate Mandela Day with a host of events aimed at empowering young people. The primary beneficiaries of these events were engineering graduates and high school learners with an interest in the engineering field.
The first event was a webinar – 67 Minutes of Engineering Mentorship for Engineering and Built Environment Students and Graduates – held on Thursday, 15 June. A joint collaboration between CESA and the South African Institution of Engineering (SAICE), the online event was themed: ‘Putting your best foot forward – positioning yourself for successful recruitment and career projection’.
The facilitator on the day was Andile Gwebu, CESA Young Professionals Forum (YPF) Gauteng North chairperson and executive for asset management at MANI Industries. Speakers included Dlozi Mnisi, SAICE’s Future Leaders Panel chairperson and construction project manager for the Joburg Region at Gauteng Department of Human Settlements; Sibusisiwe Nxumalo, water process engineer at AECOM; Jabulile Msiza, chairperson at Jones & Wagener; and Philip Booyens, director of SCIP Engineering Group.
In a remarkable initiative on Tuesday, 18th July, Zutari a member company of CESA, hosted 60 learners from diverse Gauteng schools, who have a keen interest in STEM careers. In collaboration with PROTEC STEM and CESA, this event aimed to ignite inspiration in young minds by showcasing the extensive opportunities within the field of engineering. The programme encompasses a bridge-building competition and motivational talks, all designed to foster enthusiasm and ambition. Our CEO Chris Campbell shared his engineering journey with the learners at the event held at Zutari’s head office

The 2nd webinar – 67 Minutes of Engineering Mentorship for Engineering and Built Environment Students and Graduates – was held on Tuesday, 18th July and featured more speakers discussing their professional journey in the engineering industry. Speakers included Johan Pieters, power and energy specialist at Energy Infinity; CESA Aon Engineering Excellence Awards Young Engineer of the Year in 2019, Confidence Tshilande; and Med-TechEngineers managing director Dr Gift Mphefu. The successful online event was facilitated by Saiuree Nayager, 2022 CESA Aon Engineering Excellence Awards Young Engineer of the Year.
