The Gender Mainstreaming webinar, which was hosted on 11 October 2023, featured engaging and critical discussion related to role modelling in the engineering environment. Corrie Van der Wath, CEO of Matleng Energy Solutions, was the facilitator; while Jabulile Msiza, Chairperson of CESA’s Transformation & Development Committee and Director at Jones & Wagener, set the scene for the attendees, laying the foundation for discussions.

The main speaker for the event was Malani Padayachee-Saman, the Founder and CEO of MPAMOT. She led a compelling conversation on the concept of role models and how one can aspire to become a positive influence in the engineering sector. She explained that the idea of gender mainstreaming is to foster open conversations, which are crucial in the workplace; and added that an individual’s unique perspective, influenced by their circumstances, can bring valuable empathy to the table.
