We hosted the CESA Technology and Engineering Innovation Forum webinar on ‘AI in Engineering’ on 1 August 2024. It delivered powerful insights into how artificial intelligence and machine learning are reshaping the engineering and built environment in South Africa.

Facilitated by Nomkhosi Dlamini of Eyethu Consulting Engineers, the webinar began with Dr. Gift Mphefu, Managing Director at Med-Tech Engineers and member of the CESA Transformation & Development Committee, setting the scene with a thought-provoking discussion on the intersection of AI, ML, and engineering, and the benefits it has produced in the renewable energy eco-system.

Maanda Ramutumbu, Consulting Executive, Digital Champion, and Council Member of the SAIEE, provided a deep dive into the impact of AI and ML within the engineering sector, and the importance of understanding the problems that these technologies seek to solve in order to produce impactful solutions. He highlighted the various challenges of AI and ML and how technology can drive meaningful change.

The webinar was a resounding success, encouraging continued collaboration and innovation as we shape a future where technology and engineering unite to create lasting change.
