Regional Collaboration: Strengthening the Consulting Engineering Ecosystem Across Southern Africa
Consulting engineering associations have formed the backbone of industry vitality across Southern Africa for decades. The longevity of these associations are not accidental, and stems from a relentless focus on collaboration, knowledge-sharing, advocacy, member support and collective problem-solving in the face of persistent challenges such as skills shortages, regulatory shifts, procurement inefficiencies, and the constant pressure to deliver sustainable infrastructure.
From our well-established branches across South Africa to neighbouring countries, we seek to unite professionals who share a common goal: building resilient, high-quality infrastructure that serves communities and drives economic growth.
This regional footprint matters. When associations across borders work together, we amplify our ability to address shared issues, from talent retention and mentorship to harmonising professional standards and exploring cross-border opportunities. Our reach already supports members operating regionally, and we continue to build on these networks.
Recently, we were proud to be represented by our CEO Chris Campbell and President Dr Vishal Haripersad at the recent 60th Anniversary celebrations of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Zambia (ACEZ), a true Diamond Jubilee milestone that highlighted six decades of advancing engineering excellence and shaping Zambia’s infrastructure landscape.
Looking ahead, we are actively pursuing deeper collaboration with Kenya. A dedicated webinar information session with Kenyan engineering counterparts is planned for late May 2026. This session will explore joint opportunities in engineering innovation, market expansion, skills development, and sustainable infrastructure solutions that benefit firms on both sides.
For our members, these regional initiatives deliver real value: access to new markets, exposure to diverse best practices, stronger advocacy on continental issues, and expanded networks that can lead to meaningful business and professional growth. In a competitive environment, participation in these platforms helps your firm stay ahead, whether through shared knowledge on emerging technologies, regulatory insights, or potential partnerships.
We encourage all members to stay tuned for details on the Kenya webinar and other regional engagements. Your active involvement strengthens the entire ecosystem and ensures the consulting engineering industry remains resilient, competitive, and positioned to deliver the infrastructure South Africa and the region urgently needs.
