As 2025 comes to a close, we reflect on a year in which our members remained at the centre of everything we do. Representing some 600 companies employing over 17,000 professionals, we continued to advocate for quality, sustainable, and innovative infrastructure delivery, emphasising that consulting engineering services are vital intellectual investments, not commoditised outputs.
This year saw successful events including our Infrastructure Indaba, the CESA Aon Engineering Excellence Awards and the first FIDIC Global Infrastructure Conference held in South Africa – to name but a few. Branch visits, media engagements, and knowledge-sharing sessions, such as webinars and conferences, provided platforms to network, collaborate, and showcase the expertise and relevance of our industry.
As we look to the future, the recent emphasis on infrastructure by government presents a timely opportunity for our industry to make a meaningful impact. However, sustaining any momentum requires that engineers are afforded a genuine seat at national decision-making tables and that infrastructure commitments translate into tangible social and economic outcomes.
Looking ahead to 2026, collaboration, engagement, and decisive action will continue to be key. I thank our members, staff, affiliates, sponsors, and partners for their continued support and look forward to working together to engineer a future of resilient and impactful infrastructure in South Africa.

Decisive Reform Needed to Translate Budget Allocations into Real Infrastructure Delivery
South Africa faces a critical opportunity to transform budget allocations into real, visible infrastructure delivery – but only if decisive action follows.
We have heard the promises before, but time and again projects stall due to lack of clear policy direction, limited capacity within public institutions, and procurement processes that fail to value the intellectual services essential to infrastructure success. Read More

Why Consulting Engineering Firms Should Invest in the BCE MDP
The sustainable growth of South Africa’s infrastructure and built environment depends on the strength of its engineering sector. Consulting engineering firms are at the forefront of this responsibility: their professionals are not only technical experts, but custodians of public safety, economic development, and national progress. For this reason, firms should prioritise enrolling their staff in the Business of Consulting Engineering Management Development Programme (BCE MDP).
For consulting engineering firms, the BCE MDP is more than a training initiative, it is a strategic lever for growth, compliance, and excellence. By enrolling their professionals, firms affirm their role as champions of sustainable development, transformation, and national progress, while securing their own long-term competitiveness in South Africa’s evolving infrastructure landscape.
