"The Role of the Consulting Engineer" is a training and reference manual intended to benefit project engineers at all levels working in a consulting engineering environment, and was originally developed and written to assist students attending the Business of Consulting Engineering training programme. The book covers a wide variety of topics and starts by introducing the reader to the consulting engineering environment, including business, legal and financial aspects, as well as describing quality and risk, integrity management and sustainability, before going o to the concept of delivery and the role of the consulting engineer during project delivery. The second part of the book is devoted to the devoted to the actual process of project delivery and takes the reader through every aspect thereof, starting with the importance of good and professional client relationship, the value of liaison, communications and meetings and the various external factors which influence and project delivery process. Several chapters discuss the actual design process and technical and contractual documentation, and then go on to describe the procurement, construction administration and financial management of projects and site inspections, and finally ends with the activities carried our by the consulting engineer as the project reaches completion.
