COVID-19 Communique: Solidarity Fund Contributions
Dear Colleagues,
At the Special Board meeting held on 27 March 2020, with due consideration to the sustainability of CESA and the need for all Organisations and Companies who are able to do so, it was resolved that CESA will be making a contribution to the Solidarity Fund, however small, compared to that which larger entities and individuals in South Africa and outside are able to afford. Much as the current Covid-19 Pandemic challenges are unprecedented, so too would any such contribution from CESA be unprecedented as we are mindful that we are a subscription based voluntary association and the bulk of our revenue is derived from member subscriptions.
As an organisation that has been in existence for almost 68 years, we have through prudent financial management ensured that we have been able to accumulate a modest reserve that serves to ensure the sustainability of the organisation and from time to time when the need arises, be able to draw off these reserves to make investments that would enhance the ability of the Organisation to serve our members and the industry. This is certainly one such occasion as these are exceptional circumstances affecting all of our members and our greater communities and we all need to “pitch-in” to overcome the challenge that we will face during and post the corona virus, exacerbated by the Moody’s downgrade. Some may feel it more than others and to this end we would encourage all our members and even individuals who are in a position to do so, to do the same. Furthermore, we will invite all partner Organisations to consider doing the same as “every drop, indeed does count”, however small.
By a simple calculation, if 400 of our 580 member companies are able to contribute just R 1000 each, that is R 400 000, towards the fund that will assist all companies, including those of our members most affected by the current financial situation. You will also be able to obtain a Section 18A Tax Certificate (Tax deductible donation) for your contribution.
