CESA YPF Gauteng South Events 1. Mandela Day & Woman’s Day Initiative CESA YPF Gauteng South Branch in partnership with WSP Africa collected donations in various CESA member firm offices to give back to a home for vulnerable children that is based in Alexandra. Refilwe Legae Home is in Alexandra township and is currently housing 15 children with different kinds of special needs. On Friday the 9th of August 2024 we met the founder of the home Mme Tshidi and her daughter Lebo who runs the administrative side of the home. Upon our arrival at the home, we were warmly welcomed by Mme Tshidi, she gave an overview of the home and explained to us that the home does not receive any formal funding form any entity and they rely solely on donations. Her daughter Lebo also runs a daycare centre for children with special needs under the age of six in the same yard as the home facility. She further explained the challenges that they have and how they try to mitigate where they can with what they have. We were then allowed to get inside the home to see where the children sleep. Lebo explained that due to resource and space constraints boys and girls share one bedroom and one bathroom. We were told that the centre is no longer accepting any more children because the facility is now at maximum capacity. Mme Tshidi and Lebo gracefully answered all the questions that we had for them. Zulfa, the WSP Marketing representative took their contact details to stay in communication with the home. She also let them know that she will try to get them additional help to see how the facility can be improved in the near future because currently, there are at least ten children sleeping in one bedroom and sharing one bathroom. This initiative to give back to a home that is in a township and meeting people who need all the help they can get was truly a humbling experience to everyone that attended. The aim was to make a difference and leave a lasting impact. Getting word out that there are people like Mme Tshidi and Lebo who have dedicated their lives to selflessly serve their communities with no expectations for remunerations. We were all inspired by them and hope to continue the relationship we have established with Refilwe Legae Home. 2.
