Our 2026 CESA Media Address, held in Sandton, in February, featured a compelling Presidential Message by Dr. Vishal Haripersad, themed “If Not Engineers, Then Who? Reclaiming Our Purpose, Securing Our Future.” Dr. Haripersad critically addressed South Africa’s infrastructure maintenance crisis, emphasising the urgent need for ethical, people-centred delivery and the pivotal role engineers must play in shaping resilient, sustainable systems. Association of Consulting Engineers of Zambia’s 60th Anniversary
Our CEO, Chris Campbell, and President, Dr. Vishal Haripersad, represented our members at the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Zambia (ACEZ), held in March.
This milestone celebrates six decades of advancing engineering excellence and shaping infrastructure development in Zambia. Congratulations to ACEZ.

SAICA Budget Discussion
Our CEO, Chris Campbell, was part of an expert panel hosted by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) unpacking South Africa’s budget delivered by our Finance Minister in February. The session provided expert analysis on the implications for South Africa, with expert insights on its implications for the economy and industry.
4th Built Environment Professionalisation Workshop
Dr. Vishal Haripersad, our president, delivered the keynote address at the 4th Built Environment Professionalisation Workshop, recently convened in Cape Town. Co-hosted by the City of Cape Town and the Council for the Built Environment, the workshop underscored the pivotal role of professionalisation in enhancing infrastructure delivery within South Africa’s public sector.
Dr. Haripersad’s address, framed by the question “If Not Engineers, Then Who?”, highlighted the indispensable contribution engineers must make in guiding infrastructure decisions and fortifying institutional capacities. He advocated for strengthened collaboration between government and industry to establish resilient systems capable of sustaining infrastructure for generations.
Building Diverse, Thriving Workplaces
Collaboration was central to building diverse, inclusive, and thriving workplaces, and in partnership with the South African Institution of Civil Engineering, we hosted a joint Diversity & Inclusion Webinar focused on strengthening inclusive workplace cultures across the engineering and built-environment sector.
Our Vice President, Jabulile Msiza, participated as a speaker alongside Refilwe Lesufi (SAICE President Elect), Willie du Plessis (Chemical Engineer/Consultant), and Dzino Mutyorauta (SAICE D&I Committee Member). The discussion explored practical approaches for professionals and organisations to foster environments where individuals, and the profession as a whole, can thrive.
ECSA SAICE Engineering Symposium
We participated in the Engineering Symposium, held from 25-26 March at the Galleria in Sandton. The symposium was hosted by the Engineering Council of South Africa and the South African Institution of Civil Engineering, bringing together industry leaders and practitioners to engage on key issues shaping the engineering profession. Driving Collaboration Through Our Branch Engagements
We successfully hosted two branch functions in the Western Cape and Gauteng, bringing together industry professionals to strengthen collaboration, share insights, and advance the engineering profession across these regions.
Building on this momentum, we look forward to hosting two additional branch engagements. Our KwaZulu-Natal Branch Function will take place on 23 April 2026, at 08h00, at the Hilton Garden Inn Umhlanga Arch, followed by our Limpopo Branch Function on 20 May 2026, at 17h00, at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World. We hosted a successful Infrastructure Indaba 2026 on 18–19 March at the Durban International Convention Centre.
